His success is informed by his roots. He is a graduate of one of Canada’s leading music schools of its era, Campbell Collegiate. While studying there he toured with their top vocal jazz group in conferences all over the world for the International Association of Jazz Educators, including performances in Seoul, England, France, Germany and the renowned Montreaux Jazz Festival, giving him a deep understanding of immense quality at an early age. As a Regina native, Danny also performed with the provincial musical revue touring company Saskatchewan Express for several seasons, and later went on to play in the band as well as serve as vocal coach and rehearsal director for the company for many more seasons over the years.
Danny’s performing career blossomed when he accepted the lead role of Danny Zuko in Grease, followed shortly by the national company of Spirit of a Nation, and a life-changing role in the North American premiere cast of Mamma Mia!, along with Mamma Mia!’s Pre-Broadway U.S. tour. For the two decades since, he has performed across North America in countless professional musical theatre productions, even performing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and recently toured for a year with the Queen mega-hit musical We Will Rock You! produced by Robert DeNiro.
Danny’s love for music has taken him in many exciting directions. His vocal ability was showcased when he was voted into the Top 30 of the CTV premiere of Canadian Idol. As a result, CBC funded and recorded his full length album Dorsey Park. He has performed in numerous bands, both in and out of the theatre scope. He has written instrumental, a cappella, folk, country, rock and pop music, and also works as a private recording engineer. He uses his passion to continuously learn and is a multi-instrumentalist on drums, keyboards, upright and electric bass, guitar and trombone, skills that have given him creative independence and many opportunities through the course of his career to date. Danny’s writing has also been commissioned to create new full-scale musicals and to adapt existing scores to redesign unique productions for major companies.
In recent years, Danny found a path from performing into the joy of realizing his own visions in the theatre world. He formed an independent company to produce and perform shows he believes in, starting with the highly praised Last Five Years. Even more prominently, he has been directing and music directing for reputable theatre houses such as Regina’s own Globe Theatre, Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company, The Gateway Theatre, Theatre Under the Stars, Chemainus Theatre Festival and LionFish Entertainment. His unique mark of style, story and musicality for each production, along with his energy and integrity in the rehearsal hall, have led him to be acclaimed as a favourite ally for many leading theatre practitioners.
Danny’s passion to foster greatness in the arts has also led him to bring it out in others; he coaches, teaches, leads university workshops and has adjudicated competitions and graduating performances for programs such as Capilano University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
Danny’s love for family has seen him return to his roots. He currently resides in Regina with his wife, Katie. They welcomed their new son, Jaedan, to the world this September.
